Job Description

The Assistant Controller supports the financial operations of the company by overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll functions. This role works closely with the CFO to assist with general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and audit preparation. The Assistant Controller ensures compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and industry-specific practices such as percentage-of-completion revenue recognition. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across departments are essential to success in this position.

Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
• Oversee and manage the Accounts Payable process, ensuring timely and accurate vendor payments
• Direct Accounts Receivable activities to ensure prompt collection and accurate recordkeeping
• Assist the CFO with General Ledger maintenance
• Responsible for general accounting functions and month-end/year-end close activities, including account reconciliations, tax payments, and period end journal entries
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards
• Contribute to process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the accounting department

Billing & Job Costing
• Lead contract billing operations, including pay application generation and distribution, lien waivers, support documentation, and job costing
• Set up vendors and jobs in Sage 300 CRE (accounting software)
• Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure financial accuracy and alignment
• Maintain the Summary of Contracts (WIP)

Payroll
• Manage Payroll processing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness
• Prepare quarterly payroll reports
• Year-End Employee W2’s and Form 1099’s
